Most visitors need a visa, and for tourists it is issued online through the Government of Pakistan's e-visa portal run by NADRA. You apply on the portal, upload your passport scan, photo and itinerary, and receive the visa by email. We send you a booking confirmation and letter of invitation to upload with your application. Apply at least four weeks before you fly, and make sure your passport is valid for six months beyond your return date.

Both. Most of our trips run as private departures for your own party, from a solo traveller upwards, on the dates you choose and at your pace. Some tours also have fixed-date group departures, listed under Dates on each tour page, where you join a small group of other travellers. Group sizes, and the minimum needed for a fixed departure to run, are confirmed in your quote.

We confirm your booking once we receive a deposit, and the balance is due before the trip starts. The exact deposit, balance due date and accepted payment methods are set out in your written quote before you commit to anything. We send bank details only from our official email address and never ask you to pay a personal account.

Because we book hotels, flights, permits and trekking crews in advance, the refund you receive depends on how close to departure you cancel. The full cancellation schedule is included in your quote and our booking terms. If we have to cancel a trip ourselves, for example because a road or pass is closed for safety reasons, we offer you alternative dates or a refund of payments made to us.

Hunza, Skardu, Deosai and the other main valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan are open to foreign tourists without a separate permit; you only need your visa and passport. Treks and climbs in restricted zones, such as the Snow Lake (Biafo–Hispar) trek and the Baltoro, need a trekking permit that we apply for as a licensed operator. We ask for your passport and visa copies well ahead of time, and we handle the paperwork and any checkpoint registrations on the road.

Our treks depend on Balti and Hunza porters, so we treat them as part of the team. We keep every load within the Gilgit-Baltistan porter regulations, pay agreed wages and daily allowances in full, insure our porters, and make sure they have proper shelter, food and footwear for glacier stages. If a porter falls ill or is injured, we arrange their descent and care the same way we would for a guest.

Our quotes normally include private ground transport, airport transfers, hotels on a twin-share basis, an English-speaking guide, the meals listed in the itinerary, entry fees and permits, and on treks all camping gear, cooks and porters. They normally exclude international flights, visa fees, travel insurance, tips, drinks, personal trekking gear and single-room supplements. Each tour page has its own included and not included list, and your written quote spells it out line by line.

Hunza is best from April to early November: apricot and cherry blossom in April, green summers, and golden poplars from mid-October; the Khunjerab Pass is usually open from May to November. Skardu is at its best from April to October, with clear, dry weather through summer. Deosai Plains are only reachable from about late June to mid-September, and the wildflowers peak in July and August. The high Karakoram treks, including Snow Lake and K2 Base Camp, run from late June to early September, while shorter treks such as Fairy Meadows run from June to early October.

Gilgit-Baltistan is one of the most welcoming regions we know, and thousands of foreign travellers visit every year. We still plan carefully: our guides are first-aid trained, we carry communication equipment in remote areas, we follow local security advice, and we change routes if roads or weather make a stage unsafe. Travel insurance covering medical treatment and emergency evacuation is essential. For treks and climbs, it must cover helicopter rescue to the highest altitude on your itinerary, because rescue flights in the Karakoram are only dispatched against a confirmed payment guarantee.
